Applications taken for Grassroots Arts outreach funding

Applications are being taken for the Grassroots Arts Program, which can provide funding for arts and other non-profit organizations in Wilkes County.

The program, funded by the Georgia Council for the Arts and administered in Wilkes County by the Wilkes County Community Partnership, is designed to distribute arts funding to every county in the state through a process that allows each community to decide how that funding is spent.

The amount available for Wilkes County is $1,837. No application request may exceed $1,000.

The WCCP's Grassroots Arts Advisory Committee will determine which applications are awarded funds, said Polly Fievet. Applications and information is available from the Wilkes County Adult Learning Center located behind McDonalds, at the WCCP office in the Wilkes County Courthouse, and at the Mary Willis Library.

Applicants must be a non-profit, tax-exempt organization, or a unit of local government. In the past, GAP grants have been given to arts organizations, service clubs, schools, civic groups, churches, scout troops, and libraries.

All funded projects must be accessible to the general public and demonstrate outreach to underserved populations.
