If I can, you can
By GARY TOOLE
I definitely sympathize with the addictions of folks, because I

was very much addicted by several things. If I didn't believe that God has the power to break addictions then I really wouldn't be a believer in God.

I told a church-goer once that with a solid-made-upmind and God's help, a person could break any addiction. He fired back at me, "No, they can't do no such of a thing," just like he was an authority speaking for the whole world.

He's just plain wrong and I will let him be wrong and not be angry at him. I'll just pray for him. I know better because I'm living proof that you can. If I can, then you can! Glory to God for His saving power, His healing power, and His bond breaking power. Amen.

I was bound. I mean bound down by cigarettes, alcohol, and sexual perversion. That's right. Let's tell the truth. The Bible says that an honest confession is good for the soul. What really bugs me is when you confess, then well-meaning Christian folks will say with a whine, "Well, now, why did you do that? You of all people. A preacher's son!"

To that I say, "Big deal. Even preachers' children sin and fall prey to satan's snares." Come on now. Can you say amen? Some folks can be so critical like old Job's so-called friends. Instead of lifting you up, they drive you further down.

I'm not going to be like the bunch that says, "Smoking ain't the worst thing you can do," even though it's not, but they are trying to say in a round about way that it's okay. Wrong.

I was never hooked on drugs other than alcohol which is a deadly drug that destroys countless lives, but to make a long story short, I quit smoking during the most stressful time in my life when they say that it is impossible to quit any addiction, but with a made-up-mind and God's help, we did the impossible.

I quit drinking and I quit all my addictions with God's help. So, when folks say, "I just can't," I remind them of what my teacher used to tell me, "Can't never could do nothing." When we face the impossible, then remember with Him all things are possible. He can. Can you say amen?
