Tiger shot putter Dan Wylie takes state championships

Dan Wylie is the 2007 Class AA state champion in the shot put and discus and he also was the high point individual at the state meet.
Four super Tigers carried Washington Wilkes to a sixth place finish in the Class AA state track meet last week and junior Dan Wylie took state championship honors in both of his events while also scoring higher than any other individual at the meet.

As he has done all year, Wylie took first place in both the shot put and discus events. He placed first every time he competed this year and even against the state's best athletes, he still came out on top. With tosses of 53'9" in the shot and 164'11" in the discus, Wylie's combined score also made him the top individual at the meet.

In other events at the state meet, Kelmetrus Wylie took fourth place in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.74 seconds. Ian Coe was sixth in the 2-mile run, coming in at 10:43.

In other field events, Gary Wilburn took fifth place in the long jump with a leap of 21'3.75" and also seventh place in the triple jump with a distance of 43'0.25".

Head Coach Brian Usry was proud of his athletes and is looking forward to having Coe and Dan Wylie return next year.

Both Wilburn and Kelmetrus Wylie are graduating seniors and will be attending the University of Connecticut on football scholarships next season.
