Civic club hears representative
Mickey Channell, Georgia State Representative from District 116, was the guest speaker at the regular meeting of the Washington Kiwanis Club on Tuesday, May 15. In his 15th year in the Georgia House of Representatives, Channell gave members an update on Georgia legislation and specifically discussed the Peach Care for Kids bill he authored in 1999. The program currently serves 300,000 children in Georgia - fourth in the nation as most successful. Representative Channell also said the state's 2008 budget, although not yet signed by the Governor, has $35,000 earmarked for audio/visual and technology upgrades for the Pope Center now under renovation and $2,500 recurring funds for Washington's Chamber of Commerce. Kerry McAvoy was the program host for the day.
