Funding available for grassroots arts programs to help arts-related groups reach local public

Funding is again being made available for grassroots arts programs for Wilkes County, and October 18 is the deadline for applications.

The Wilkes County Community Partnership has received designation as the re-granting agency for the Governor's Grassroots Arts Program. State funding totaling $2,500 will be available to be awarded to local entities wishing to present arts-related programs to audiences in Wilkes County during this current funding cycle from July 2007 through June 2008.

The Grassroots Arts Program (GAP) was developed in 1993 to help community groups provide cultural and educational opportunities that are wanted and needed at the local level. Applicants must provide a 50 percent cash match.

October 18, 2007 is the deadline for applications to be received.

"This is an exciting opportunity to facilitate the presentation of programs of interest to our community by supporting local groups and/or artists and to activate an exciting partnership of state government and local communities," said Carolyn Reynolds, Executive Director.

Among the many projects eligible for funding are visual arts exhibits, concerts, theatrical and dance performances, readings, filmprograms, storytelling, folk art projects, arts festivals, and technical assistance programs.

Awards will be made to groups with tax exempt status or with a co-applicant organization which has a tax-exempt status. All funded projects must be accessible to the general public and demonstrate outreach to underserved populations.

GAP funding is available statewide; half the funds are based on population and the remainder of the funds is given as an equal amount per county. For applications or additional information contact: Polly Fievet, P.O. Box 1010, Washington, GA 30673/ 678-7647or 678-1678 / fievet@nu-z.net.
