Antique appraisals to be offered at Foundation meet Have you ever been one of those folks glued to your television on Monday nights to watch "Antiques Roadshow" on the Public Broadcasting System (PBS)? Over the past decade the series has become an American phenomenon that has made just about everyone search their houses and attics for "hidden treasure." Wilkes Countians and neighbors have an opportunity to share their heirlooms with appraisers and antiques experts at our own Washington-Wilkes appraisal fair. The Washington-Wilkes Historical Foundation, as part of its annual membership drive, will host "An Afternoon of Appraisals and Appetizers" on Sunday, October 28, from 3 to 6 p.m., at Wisteria Hall, 225 East Robert Toombs Avenue. For only $15, each guest will receive a year's membership in the Historical Foundation and may bring two items to receive an informal appraisal from the expert panel. There will also be plenty of good food and sharing of information. Among the appraisers will be Frank Walsh of Atlanta who has appeared on "Antiques Roadshow" as an appraisal expert on rare books, manuscripts, maps, and prints. There will be others who will provide their expertise on furniture, pottery, and ceramics, jewelry, silver, art work, sports memorabilia, collectibles, and other areas.
"This will be a fun way to support the Historical Foundation and its projects as well as gain knowledge about your own possessions," says Skeet Willingham on behalf of the Foundation.
