James Turner Funeral services for James Turner, 89, of Greensboro Road, Washington, were held Saturday, September 22, 2007, at the New Salem Baptist Church with Rev. R.L. Reynolds officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. He died September 16, at Vista Center at Wesley Wood Hospital, Atlanta. Mr. Turner was a native and lifelong resident of Wilkes County. He was the son of the late Webb Turner and Mattie Edwards Turner and the widower of Ethel Berry Turner. He was a sawmill worker and a retired school custodian for the Wilkes County Board of Education. Survivors include two daughters, Edith Humphries Styles and Mary T. Hurd; three sons, James C. Turner, Ralph Turner, and Calvin Turner; a brother, Willie Turner; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Wright and Jones Funeral Home of Lincolnton was in charge of arrangements.
