William Allen Thurmond Jr. Funeral services for William Allen Thurmond Jr., 88, of Washington were held Friday, January 25, 2008, at Hopkins Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Edwards officiating. Interment was in Resthaven Cemetery. He died January 23. Mr. Thurmond was a native of Wilkes County and the son of the late William Allen Thurmond and Maggie Saggus Thurmond. He was a graduate of Tignall High School and retired from Pet Milk Company. He served in the CCC and the United States Army. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 5899, the Washington Masonic Lodge, and Beulah Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Catherine Tooel Thurmond; and a brother, Jack M. Thurmond, Washington.
Hopkins Funeral Home of Washington was in charge of arrangements.
