Reading keeps the dream alive

Lucille Lawrence, a local AmeriCorp volunteer, helps students at Washington-Wilkes Primary School select books during their recent Reading Is Fundamental distribution day. "The event was held around Martin Luther King Day and celebrated his life and accomplishments," said Lisa Isham, literacy coach at Washington-Wilkes Primary School. "The students learned how volunteers like Ms. Lawrence are helping to keep Martin Luther King's dream alive in our community and in communities around the country." Reading is Fundamental (RIF) and AmeriCorp are sponsored by our local Communities in Schools under the direction of Wilkes County Community Partnership.
