Updates club on hospital status
Marvin Goldman, administrator of Wills Memorial Hospital, was the guest speaker at the Washington Kiwanis Club on Tuesday, February 5. Goldman gave members a "hospital update" in which he indicated that the country is in the midst of a crisis in health care if the present cost per capita per year continues at the present rate. He said that the U.S. currently spends $6,200 for every man, woman, and child on health care services - whereas the average for industrialized nations is only $2,500. Goldman reviewed Wills Memorial operating expenses for 2007 (which showed a positive cash flow) and the projections for 2008 (showing a deficit). He also discussed the hospital's strengths and weaknesses. Steve Blackmon was the program host for the day.
