Southwest Washington named 'Opportunity Zone' by DCA
Mayor Willie Burns met last week with Mike Beatty, Commissioner, Department of Community Affairs; Brian Williamson, assistant DCA commissioner; and Willie Adams Jr., Mayor of Albany and DCA board chairman; and other members of the DCA board. This designation is the culmination of two years of work by the city, Burns said. "The foundation for this designation was the adoption of the Southwest Washington Redevelopment Plan. Washington then stepped forward by creating the Southwest Washington Enterprise Zone that legally established special local incentives to spur new investment and job creation." The Department of Community Affairs, an essential partner in this process, has locked in special state incentives to spur new investment and job creation with this designation. "Washington is now able to offer additional incentives that will lead to new jobs and investment coming to southwest Washington," Burns said. "Working closely with the Department of Community Affairs has opened new doors for us as we build a better future for our citizens."
More information about these new incentives for businesses and new housing construction is available from Mayor Burns at 706-678-3277 or David Jenkins at 706-401-9578.
