Briarwood girls runner-up in GISA Region 1AA

Members of the Briarwood girls track team which finished as runner-up in Region 1AA included (l-r) Emily Henderson, Lizzie Keen, Anna Goolsby, and Brandy Ray. Helping them show off their trophy is Chase Walker (center) who also qualified for competition at the state meet.
With Lizzie Keen leading the way with first place finishes in four events and a second place finish in the pole vault, the Briarwood Academy Lady Bucs took second place overall at the GISA Region 1AA track meet held at Gatewood Academy in Eatonton.

Keen shared the individual high point honors with Shannon Newsome of Thomson. He first place finishes were in the triple jump, the 400-meter dash, the 4x100 relay, and the 4x400 relay.

Emily Henderson, another member of the winning 4x400 relay team, was runner-up in both the 800-meter run and the 16000-meter run.

Anna Goolsby placed third in the 400 meters, fourth in the 100-meter dash, and fourth in the 800 meters. She was also a member of the winning 4x400 team.

The fourth member of the 4x400 team, Brandy Ray, also placed second in the long jump, third in the 100 meters, and fourth in the 200-meter dash.

Saul Smith won the pole vault event in region competition and finished fifth in the state.
For the boys, Saul Smith took first place in the pole vault while Chase Walker placed second as a member of the 4x100 relay team and third in the 4x400 relay.

All of these top four finishes from the region meet advanced to competition at the state track meet held at Hugh Mills Stadium in Albany. Former Briarwood scholar-athlete Hannah Batrous accompanied the team to the meet.

The girls 4x400 relay team (Keen, Henderson, Goolsby, Ray) took second place at the state meet.

Keen was also runner-up in the 400 meters and sixth in the 4x100 relay.

Walker was runner-up in the 4x100 relay and third in the 4x400 relay.

Henderson finished third in the 1600 meters and third in the 800 meters.

Goolsby was sixth in the 400 meters, the 800 meters, and the 4x100 relay. She also got an eighth place finish in the 100 meters.

Ray was sixth in the 4x100 relay and seventh in the long jump.

Smith finished fifth in the pole vault.
