Wylie repeats as champ in discus at state meet; score puts team in top 10

DAN WYLIE Three-time state champ
Not only did Tiger senior Dan Wylie successfully defend his state championship in the discus throw, his point total at the Georgia State Track Meet secured a top ten finish for Washington-Wilkes for the third year in a row.

Wylie's throw of 163'7" in the discus eclipsed the rest of the field by more than 10 feet at the state contest and his 52'4.5" put of the shot was good enough for second place in that event. His 18 points put the Tigers in a three-way tie for seventh place in the state. Wylie was also state champion in the shot put in 2007.

Also competing at the state meet was freshman Eric Scott who did a great job in the long jump going 19'6". "He did not make the finals but did well for a freshman in his first time at the state meet," Coach Brian Usry said.

The 4x100 relay team ran well with a time of 44.97 but did not make the finals. The team consists of Deandre Stewart, Eric Scott, Teverrius Jones, and Dexter Norman.

"I am proud of the effort and dedication these young men have given this season," Usry said of all the athletes. "They did a great job representing Washington-Wilkes."

Throws coach Chris Mason also expressed his praise for the team members.
