Summer Drama Camp sees more than 50 campers learning, working, preparing for 'The Wizard of Oz'

Campers run lines and wait to rehearse during the first week of the annual Summer DramaCamp held at the Bolton Lunceford Playhouse.
This year's Summer Drama Camp at the Bolton Lunceford Playhouse began Tuesday morning as more than 50 kids from kindergarten through high school gathered to learn hands-on the art and craft of drama.

"This is a tremendous camp," said Libby Foster. "We have 52 campers, and 45 of them are teenagers. Usually we don't have more than 30 or so, and even last year when we did High School Musical, we only had 40 campers."

More and more, Foster said, the campers are coming from out of town, as far as Gwinnett County and Augusta. "Our reputation is growing."

The two-week camp will end with four performances of The Wizard of Oz set for June 6-8. This year's camp schedule for the first week has students in grades K-4 meeting from 9 a.m. until noon each day, and older students are meeting 12:30-3:30 p.m.

Next week, week two of the camp, all students will meet 12:30-3:30 p.m. each day.

Performances of The Wizard of Oz are scheduled for Friday, June 6, at 7 p.m.; Saturday, June 7, at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.; and Sunday, June 8, at 2 p.m.
