Robert Toombs House to offer free admission on Sat., June 14

Rangers Marcia Campbell and Nelson Noble admire the Bonnie Blue Flag at the Robert Toombs House display of flags.
In conjunction with Georgia State Parks' "Get Outdoors Georgia" event, the Robert Toombs House state historical site will have a day of free admission Saturday, June 14.

"We're open free that day," said curator Marcia Campbell, "and The Toombs house will be featuring an exhibit of 19th century flags, including the Bonnie Blue Flag, Georgia state flag, Robert E. Lee's headquarters flag, and the unique 'Second Stainless' banner that Robert Toombs himself may have designed."

Several of the flags on display were made by Soren Dresch's Ruffin Flag Company, located nearby.

Campbell said that other changes are taking place at the historic site. The Robert Toombs house will now be open on Sundays from 2-5 p.m., and Ranger Nelson Noble has joined the staff from Elijah Clark State Park.

The Georgia State Parks and Historic Sites event June 14 will exempt visitors from paying the daily parking fee and admission fees, and many sites will have special Get Outdoors Georgia events. For more information, see www. GetOutdoorsGeorgia.org.
