Rosa Lee Martin seeks re-election as Wilkes Chief Magistrate Judge
"I am pleased to have had the opportunity to serve Wilkes County for the past 18 years as Chief Magistrate," she said. "I am looking forward to the next four years of service and I ask for your vote and support in the upcoming election November 4, 2008." If reelected, Martin said, "I will continue to diligently strive to be fair and impartial to all in the next four years." During the past 18 years as Chief Magistrate, Judge Martin has been a member of the Council of Magistrate Judges of Georgia, and on the Executive Board for the Council for Georgia Magistrates for seven years. Born in Wilkes County, Rosa Martin is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe M. Godwin Jr., and has one brother, Billy Godwin, also of Wilkes County She graduated from Washington-Wilkes High School and is a graduate of Johnson Business College of Athens. She has successfully completed courses in Advanced Mediation Training for Magistrates in the State of Georgia and has more than 500 hours of additional training in various other subjects of civil and criminal law needed for magistrate education. She is a member of the Child Fatality Review Board and the Child Abuse Review Board in the Toombs Circuit of the State of Georgia. Prior to becoming judge, Martin was the owner and operator of Dave's TV Sales and Service, Inc. on Court Street, and served on the Washington-Wilkes Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, and also served as board secretary. A member of First Baptist Church of Washington, she is active in the Mary Burton-Primetime Sunday School Class, serving as class vice president, and has served in other capacities in the church.
Judge Martin is married to Amos Martin, owner and operator of Martin Alignment and Brakes in Washington. She has one daughter, Libby Foster, married to Jeff Foster, and has two grandchildren, Abagail and Clayton.
