Everything you ever wanted to know about buying a home will be available at a Homeownership Expo and Family Day Saturday, June 28, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Pope Conference Center.

"This will be a family-oriented day with activities for the entire family," Barbara Bacon said. "This will be a day of information and education, so bring the family, bring a friend. This event is free and open to the public."

There will be door prizes will be given throughout the day, Bacon said. "Get a chance to win the Grand Prize of a $300 gas card, and listen to the music of the exciting Splitz Band."

The City of Washington, in collaboration with supporting sponsors Farmers State Bank, GCBM, Inc., Minority Development Corporation, and GABEO, will host the day-long expo to provide resource information for not only the citizens of Wilkes County, but to residents of surrounding counties.

Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is the nation's housing agency committed to increasing homeownership, particularly among minorities and also promotes economic and community development, Bacon said. "Come and hear what representatives from HUD, the Department of Community Affairs (DCA) and the USDA Rural Development agencies have to say about their efforts to provide housing opportunities and services through their programs."

Vendors will provide information on topics including: How to Buy and Repair A Home; Health Services; Jobs; Mentoring; How to Start a Business; Banking and Credit Union Services; Real Estate Services; Voter Registration; Public and Community Services Programs; and Much More.
