Deborah L. Davis is candidate for Wilkes Co. Probate Judge seat
"I have had the privilege of working for Wilkes County since May 1998," she said, "and I have worked with the Magistrate Court since 2001. Working with Judge Rosa Lee Martin as her secretary and On-Call Magistrate has given me a wealth of knowledge through both extensive schooling and hands-on experience with the judicial system and the laws of the State of Georgia issuing warrants and holding civil hearings." Davis stresses that, although she works in the Magistrate Court, she is a candidate for Probate Judge. "I'm not running against Chief Magistrate Judge Martin," she said, "I'm running for Probate Judge." Davis has been a member of the Executive Board Council for the Magistrate Courts, a committee member of the Violence in Georgia Committee since 2002, and is presently co-chairman of the Violence in Georgia Committee. She started her career in Florida in 1981 as a communications officerwith the Monroe County (Fla.) Sheriff's Department. Going through the law enforcement academy in 1982, she worked as a road patrol officerfrom 1983 to 1991, when she passed the Sergeant's Exam placing fourth in the county. She worked as a sergeant until leaving the department in 1994 and moving to Washington with her husband, Bill, and her mother. In Washington, Davis' husband Bill worked in the lab at Wills Memorial Hospital from 1994 until 1997, when he was diagnosed with leukemia. "He lost his battle in 1999," she said. She and her mother reside in the Tyrone community and are active members of Phillips Mill Baptist Church.
Davis said that she is running for Probate Judge to serve Wilkes County. "Now that Judge Burton is retiring, it leaves an open door for the possibility for me to contribute more to Wilkes County as Judge of the Probate Court, where I will continue to offer the public the same personal hands-on attention I have given in the past."
