Christmas Tour planning starts at foundation's Sunday meeting

The Washington-Wilkes Historical Foundation will meet Sunday, June 29, to begin planning for the annual Christmas Tour of Homes. The meeting will be held at the Mary Willis Library at 3 p.m.

This year the tour will be held on December 12 and 13. An overview of the entire event will be presented by the Christmas tour team.

Community volunteers are needed in many areas, including opening homes for the tour or for dinner guests; acting as docents in tour homes; helping to serve dinners or delivering dinners; greeting guests at the Chamber of Commerce; serving at the reception; responding to reservation requests; scheduling musical groups; placing signs at tour locations; and working with the publicity team.

Everybody in the community is encouraged to participate and to begin by attending this meeting.

A spokesman for the Foundation says that it is the mission of the Washington-Wilkes Historical Foundation to preserve, develop, and restore sites, buildings, and other structures of historical or architectural interest in and around Washington and Wilkes County while also participating in programs and projects for the benefit of historical education.

The new Foundation website at http://www.historyofwilkes.org/ has additional information relating to all of the Foundation's projects and programs.
