Washington mayor elected to GMA leadership position

Washington Mayor Willie Burns was elected to the board of directors for the Georgia Municipal Association (GMA) during the association's annual meeting in Savannah June 24.

Burns will serve as president of GMA's 7th District. The district includes cities in Wilkes, Lincoln, Columbia, Richmond, Burke, Jenkins, Jefferson, Washington, Glascock, Hancock, Warren, and McDuffie counties.

"We are pleased to have Mayor Burns taking on this leadership position," said GMA Executive Director Jim Higdon. "He's well respected by his colleagues, and I'm sure he'll provide great leadership to the cities in his district."

Based in Atlanta, GMA is a voluntary, non-profit organization that provides legislative advocacy, educational, employee benefit, and technical assistance services to its 500-member cities.
